Teddy Bear Picnic

If you go down in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today
You better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears
Have their picnic

Band Concert & Awards

Tuesday night was Alta's Band Concert and Awards Ceremony. It had already been a long day and so I packed a bag with things for Naissa and Isaac to do quietly. The stickerbook, however cool, needed directions. A RED blob mixed with a BLUE blob equals what color blob? They would then find the correct color blob and stick it on there. I spent too much time whispering that I missed everything that was being said on stage. Coloring didn't work either because they kept fighting over the colors. Their chairs kept getting pushed forward and backwards, probably because they weren't sitting in them. Finally after much exhaustion...(probably most of their behavior was only noticed by me and Jim) I took them outside. Zack followed. They ran around and played hide-n-seek, though there weren't many places to hide and they kept hiding in the same spot as the last person. While they were playing Red Light Green Light I slipped back in the cafeteria to see where they were on the program. When I turned back around I saw that the sprinklers on opposite sides of the amphitheater had come on and Isaac was right in the middle...dancing!! He had his arms up in the air and he was hopping from one foot to the other. I'd of gotten a picture if I hadn't been so caught of guard!

We managed to get back inside just before the percussion instructor began talking. He surprised all of us by giving Jade the Most Improved Percussionist Award. We had no idea. We were very proud. She has worked hard. This was her first year in band, whereas the majority of her peers have been playing since 5th grade. She joined the after school percussion ensemble where I think there were two beginning band members, counting her. Again....not ready with the camera!
Naissa and Isaac and I hung out in the back so as not to disturb anyone but to still be able to hear the band play!
Jade's name was spelled wrong on her medallion. Luper. Funny her percussion instructor, who knows her name, even said it wrong when he announced it!
Side note: her yearbook picture says, Looper. Yet in the back it claims that Loper was not pictured. lol!! I wonder who has the "difficult" job of copying the names from the card to the computer.

Mowing the Lawn

Zack has got himself a job! We borrowed our friend Eddie's lawn mower and Zack wanted to give it a try. He did great! I'm sure it would've been easier if he were taller.
Jim giving pointers on how to turn around. I think that was one of the funnest parts for Zack. He's light enough to where he has to lean his whole body onto the handle to get the front of the mower to lift. :) Isaac, dressed to mow, did his part too! (Thanks again Jen for the sweater vests! He has worn them out!) "I'm using the mower" "Isaac won't let me have a turn!"

OH MY GOSH!!!!!

Just 20 minutes earlier Isaac had said he needed to go to the bathroom. I took him to use the library bathroom. We picked up his brother and went to wait until Kindergarten got out. I sat and talked with a friend while Zack and a friend made paper airplanes. I heard Zack say something to Isaac. You can imagine my surprise when I turned around and I saw Isaac standing there with his pants down and he was pulling up his underwear. I nearly jumped out of my seat to get to him. I asked him “Did you pee on the tree?” and he said “No’. I asked him several times, all in different ways. His answer was consistently, “No, I didn’t pee” I still wasn’t sure if I believed him or not but I wasn’t about to go over and feel or smell the tree or the grass around it!

At this point Isaac became a kid that I’ve not seen before. He started grabbing Zack’s paper airplanes and throwing them. He may still be 3 years old but he doesn’t throw like one! It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if he was just throwing them on the grass where they were sitting but no, Isaac had to throw them over the fence into No Man’s Land. (a dead space between the Kindergarten playground and the office) Thankfully Zack’s name wasn’t on any of the papers! What made this an even bigger deal was that I had told Isaac not to do it. Then I told him to STOP. Then I said it louder as I walked quickly towards him….as he kept throwing them over the fence. (let me add that he was laughing while all this was happening) (I was not) As I got within arms length of him and was about to grab him…..he was gone! Running! Running and laughing! I was not. I chose to wait. Wait and watch….as I slowly got into position….and he took the bait and ran closer and I surprised him by sprinting 15 feet and snatching him up before he could figure out what was going on! I carried him like a football, under my arm, bouncing him like a pom pom and he just laughed. I did not. I put him in the wagon and told him to sit there until we got home. I’m sure I don’t have to tell ya that he immediately started to climb out. I put my hand on his shoulder and held him. He started climbing out again. I put my hand on his shoulder and held him…He got out…He ran…Zack chased him…Zack caught him…Back in the wagon…Climbed out again…Zack grabbed him…Back in the wagon…I’m ready to tie him in at this point but I don’t have anything to use…not even shoestrings! We did this over and over until he finally just sat. I sighed a tired sigh. He threw a water bottle half way across the playground. (I’m not exaggerating) Then Zack’s snack bar trash hit the ground. Naissa’s class let out and she came over carrying a bear that she had made. She placed it in the front of the wagon and turned to talk with her friend Kaylin. Isaac started to get up and I firmly reminded him to SIT! He did, and as he did he reached forward and crunched up Naissa’s bear! He sat most of the way home with a pout on his face and his arms crossing his chest.

When we got home he got to spend some time on the “thinking spot”. (which is like the naughty spot but you are ‘spose to “think” about where you're sitting and what you did or said to get you there) When he was released from the “thinking spot” I asked him why his pants were down at school if he wasn’t peeing on anything. He replied, “I had to go poop”. OMG!!! So he had been telling the truth the whole time! He didn’t pee on the tree! He pooped next to the tree!! I thought I would have a heart attack right then and there! OMG!!! I of course called Jim right away because I knew he wouldn’t want to be left out the loop. As I’m telling him about the poop, Isaac proudly blurts out “I WENT BIG POOP”! OMG!!! I told Jim he was gonna have to sneak into the school yard at night and pick up the poop because there are 6 preschool and Kindergarten classes that will be playing out there tomorrow and I don’t want some little girl who’s wearing her brand new Summer dress and sandals to get poop on them!! OMG!!! Can you imagine?!

What is it about walls and furniture that attracts little hands with markers? That makes toothpaste want to explode and smear itself all over objects it has no business being on?
It seems to make perfect sense to the ones involved. Why shouldn't their name be written on their dresser drawer and their sibling's name on theirs?

Another victim of the "Can't Have Anything Nice" Syndrome. Now, Spiderman is not my kind of superhero, I'm not even sure if he falls in that category but because I don't know what else to call him he shall be called a superhero for the purpose of this blog. Spiderman was supposed to add a nice touch to the boy's room. They have Spiderman sheets and they had a Spiderman lamp up until 2 weeks ago when Spiderman's face was torn in half, hence destroying the lamp. I'm not quite sure what the story is on the Spiderman water globe other than Zack did it. So not only can I not have anything nice, the kids can't either.
You might be a Redneck if....
I was reading the last few chapters in Job, which happen to be some of my favorite scripture. I just love how GOD's power and majesty and splendor are revealed in His creation. These verses just put me in awe everytime I read them. I love how the great and might animals are described and how there are storehouses for lightening. Because it was raining earlier I thought of these verses in Job 38:34-38
"Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? Can you make lightening appear and cause it to strike as you direct it? Who gives intuition and instinct? Who is wise enough to count all the clouds? Who can tilt the water jars of heaven, turning the dry dust to clumps of mud?"

Award of Excellence Ceremony

It has begun...the Senior Activities. This last week my mom and I attended the California Scholarship Federation's Award of Excellence Ceremony which Leesha was a part of. We were served an interesting dinner while visiting with Leesha's Trig/Calculus Teacher. There was a video put together of all the participants, with pictures from when they were little, in between as well as their senior pictures. They shared their memories and their hopes for the future.
Several of Leesha's good friends were among the 120 honored.
Leesha and Janine have been friends since 2nd grade.

I tried to get a picture of Mr. Kuyper, the percussion instructor, but my camera focused in on the flowers instead!

:)

got keys?

I'm sorry to say I don't have a picture for the story I am about to share. You see last Sunday Jim went to Winco and LOCKED HIS KEYS IN THE CAR. He didn't call me because he didn't tell me he took my car and I was getting in the shower when he left. He instead called our friend Eddie, who didn't answer his phone. So he called Gary, who was at church and didn't answer it the first time. But when Jim called him a second time he thought something must be up so he answered it and God bless him, he told Jim he'd be right over. Gary picked Jim up and brought him home to get the other key to my car and then drove him back to get my car.
Friday night I get a call from Jim, who had gone up to Winco, telling me that Eddie will be coming by to pick up the other key because he has LOCKED HIS KEYS IN HIS TRUCK. I had him call Eddie back to tell him that I would take Jim the key. Thankfully Jade was home and kept an eye on her sibs so I didn't have to load everybody up.
So today I get a call....YES!! Jim has LOCKED HIS KEYS IN HIS TRUCK again, this time at Pep Boys. So once again I took Jim the other key and rescued his butt so he wouldn't have to call AAA and use up all our free "helps" in one week!!
Funny thing is, Jim has more than one hide-a-key....he just can't find them! So today before leaving Pep Boys, he had a couple more keys made! (lol!)

Scanning

I just figured out how to scan pictures on to the computer. Before I would get a whole page with the picture in the corner and couldn't figure how to cut or crop it. But now I found a way that does it automatically! YIPPEE! Of course now I have to figure out how to touch up these photos but all in due time...

odds & ends

Naissa on her last day of T-ball. Not sure why her eye looks so weird but I know why her hair looks like it wasn't brushed....it wasn't! ;)

My very first zucchini grown in my own backyard! Funny, that right after I took this picture one of them went missing! I'm wondering if its fate was something like that of our eggs...which ended up cracked on our backyard fence and on the "grass".....hmmm.....?!?!

Zack had already left for school when I took this picture or his toes would've been in it too. This is an example of what happens when mom is gone. I didn't even know we had PURPLE nail polish. I KNOW we don't have polish REMOVER! I guess the kids will be wearing socks with their sandals until this wears off! LOL!!!

Isaac and T-Ball

The last of the T-Ball and Baseball Games!! Of course there's nothing like ending the season with Naissa playing at 9am, Zack at 9:15am and Isaac at 9:30am ALL on DIFFERENT FIELDS!! Zack had to cheer for himself because we couldn't let Naissa or Isaac go to their games by themselves. To add to the schedule and the HEAT we couldn't find Naissa or Isaac's baseball clothes...No Shirt, No Shoes...We got a Problem! We decided not to stress on it and let them wear whatever! So they both played in sandals...Isaac wore his Yankees hat but he actually wears that every week anyway. You can see Isaac's clothes in the pictures below. As much as I love watching them play, I am so glad the season is over. I hate HOT weather. I hate driving and using gas. I hate flipping a coin to see who gets to see whose game. BUT I LOVE taking pictures of them playing! It was funny because Isaac got his hair cut and wasn't wearing his T-ball shirt and even though we were standing right with his coach, he didn't know Isaac was there! Nobody recognized him, until he got up to bat! I love hearing other parents talk. Especially when it's something good about my kids. (We all need encouragement that our kids are doing better "out there" than they do at home) I'm not afraid to say that Isaac is good at hitting the ball. I mean he's had enough practice! lol! But to hear it from other parents, just makes my heart swell. You can love something and not be that good at it.....baseball with Isaac is different so it would suck, if he did. (ha!!) ANYWAY each time Isaac got up to bat there would be chitter chatter about how good he was and blah blah blah. Little comments about his hair looking so cute and how they wouldn't want to be up against that little guy, he really slams it etc... It just filled my heart with things to ponder....or to blog about! :)
A couple of games ago, Isaac slammed the ball and it hit this little girl in the outfield, knocking the wind out of her and making her cry. Isaac paused, not knowing whether he should run to first or not. The dad patted Isaac on the back and told him "that was a great hit buddy" and that his daughter would be okay. So Isaac RAN as I listened to the parents talk about how hard "that little blond boy with the Yankee hat" can hit and how they were glad it wasn't them who got hit. After the game we made sure the little girl was okay, which she was, but she may have a mark in the morning! (That might be one of the reasons the 3yr olds play with tennis balls)

Isaac Loves Baseball

To say that ISAAC LOVES BASEBALL would be a huge understatement. He wants to play 24/7. He'd like it if you would go out and play catch or pitch to him but if you don't, it doesn't stop him. He'll just pull out the Tee and hit it off there. He never seems to tire from chasing the ball after it's slammed across the yard (by him). He has done really well playing T-ball, he's only 3yrs old so expectations are pretty much non-existent. He loves to hit. He doesn't like to play outfield too much. This last week was no different, except that I had my camera.
Coach calls the kids to get their mitts and hats and go outfield. Isaac does so but pouts all the way out to his "position". Throws the mitt down and pouts. When I don't respond he picks up the mitt and starts to walk away from the game. I go after him and he chucks the mitt as far as it will go!! As soon as the mitt is recovered, it's time to bat again and Isaac runs infield and gets ready to bat!

IT'S A BOY!

Isaac got a haircut! He wanted it cut like dad's but since dad has NO hair, we talked him into getting it cut like Zack's!! No more comments about having all girls!

WWFS??

WWFS? What Would Flylady Say?
I have been on my kids to clean up their rooms. I told them I was NOT going to do it. I have given up too many weekends to digging out their rooms. So the other night Zack came screaming into my room about there being a mouse under his bed. He said he didn't know what it was so he pulled on, what he would find out, was the mouse's tail! Yes, he freaked! Jim had to go in and lift up the mattresses so he could see under the bed and sure enough there was a mouse!! Mind you it was DEAD (not yet stiff tho') and it was caught in a TRAP!! So even though you can see the piles of crap in the boy's room, here's a picture!! ;)
Though we didn't see them do it, we are sure that one of our cats got a good laugh out of bringing in this thing from somewhere outside!
The next day we were visited by the biggest moth like critter I've seen. I've seen huge dragonflies and butterflies but not one of these. It was at least 3 inches across just sitting there. It too was encouraged to flitter about our house by our wonderful feline friends. Our cats must really love us, they are constantly showering us with gifts!
Our backyard must have heard me talking about how I love open fields of wild flowers, because it has begun to transform itself into such a thing. Minus the wildflowers! I guess it didn't hear the part about my allergies either. Before I left for the Trace Adkins concert I had spent several days watering the grass in the back, hoping it would come back to life from the dead, dried up, stickery, weedy looking patch we call our yard. I was gone from Friday to Monday and when I went back there on Tuesday, there were patches of "grass" (???) over 12 inches tall! The only thing was that it wasn't green, it was more like a wheat field! I asked Jim if they watered my plants and flowers and the "grass" and he said "I think Zack might of"!!!! WHAT?!?!?! Am I the ONLY one who can water the lawn and plants? The sprinklers are broken so I've been standing out there with the hose almost everyday (never can remember if we're odd or even on watering days). Several of my plants and flowers were dehydrated (to say the least). Thankfully most have recovered. I even have peas, strawberries and zucchini growing. My zinnias are starting to grow too, won't be long until they are bursting with color. Only 2 of my daisies have survived! They are my favorite, I may have to try again.

Monterey with the 4th grade

The day after Mother's Day (also the day I got home from my trip) I chaperoned the 4th grade trip to Monterey. We left at 6am on charter buses. It was great that so many parents could go because it made it so that we only had 3 kids in each group. I (obviously) had Zack, his friend Mark and a boy named Joshua. Joshua drove me crazy! As I've said before, I usually don't sleep the night before a trip and this trip was no different so I looked forward to a little early morning siesta on the way to Monterey....but Zack and Mark took the front seat and Joshua jumped into the seat next to me. He talked and tapped on me the entire time! He asked me if we were there yet 4 times before we even hit Madera!!! I think my relationship with God grew that day, as I was constantly calling on Him to HELP me with Joshua. We stopped at Casa De Fruita for breakfast (which we were to bring ourselves) and a bathroom break. Joshua didn't bring anything for breakfast. He badgered me for my one little muffin that I brought and the banana that Zack brought! Then he was thirsty and wanted to drink my water!! At least he was able to use the bathroom by himself. The Peacocks were out and roaming.
Zack and Mark
When we got back on the bus from Casa De Fruita, Zack said he wanted to sit with me!! (see....prayer works!!) (and no, Zack didn't know I was going crazy w/Joshua)
Monterey had such beautiful flowers, I was totally coveting them for my own measly little dried up garden.
We walked the Path Of History, checking out all the historical sites along the way.
The San Carlos Cathedral is the only Presidio chapel remaining in California. It was closed due to retrofit and conservation (that's what the sign said), but you could still see the bells behind all the construction. But I of course just have a picture of the building next to it with a docent type lady walking out to share her wealth of Mission history information.
Bird Attack up on the looking deck....dropping bird bombs as we all ran away!
Tiny Hermit Crabs scattered across the rocks not realizing what or who was coming...
Zack and Chase

Overall it was a good trip. Zack sat with me on the way home and we both got in a good snooze. Unfortunately there were many Hermit Crab casualties, as several kids tried to sneak them onto the bus tied in bags of water.....no air! When it finally clicked that the crabs needed air, the kids put their heads together and decided to stuff the poor crabs into water bottles....filled with bottled water....and still no way for the crabs to get air because they were stuck floating in the non salt water! Some crabs were thrown back towards the water....from some 20+ feet up! Most of the other parents and even teachers just shrugged it off as no big deal! How sad! It was good to get home!
